Good friend of Carswell Gould, Jason Bradbury, launches kickstarter campaign for new AI film

Maddie Gulliver - 27th September 2024

Jason Bradbury, of The Gadget Show – and more recently, The Gadget Show Podcast – announces brand-new comedy feature film Ctrl-AI-Delete. Jason and co-writer, comedian Mark Felgate, along with L.A.-based British director Elizabeth Blake Thomas, are hoping to get a boost to their new film project from a Kickstarter campaign launching 27th September 2024. The movie is a love letter to retro tech enthusiasts and fans of offbeat, British comedy – think Shaun of the Dead meets Hackers.

Ctrl AI Delete delivers a riotous take on our tech-obsessed times, centring on a global AI rollout that spectacularly backfires, sending the world into blackout and chaos. Fortunately, humanity has a last line of defence, a scrappy crew of retro gamers at their annual gaming convention in Skegness!  Armed with their beloved ’80s and ’90s vintage computers, and against the mounting chaos of rioters, looters and power outages, they mount a nostalgic and hilarious counterattack to save the world.

UK Public AI Apocalypse Fears

Polls reveal the film taps into prevailing concerns about AI. A survey conducted by YouGov found that approximately 49% of respondents in the UK expressed concern about the increasing role of AI in daily life, with specific fears related to privacy invasion and job displacement. A further poll revealed that a significant 17% of Britons’ ‘first thoughts about AI are apocalyptic in nature.’ (source: https://yougov.co.uk/technology/articles/45782-concerns-ai-apocalypse-rise-last-year)

It all adds cultural depth to the narrative of why a comedy film about an AI rollout gone-wrong will connect with audiences today.

Gadget Man and Film Fan

Jason’s love of tech stems from his dad, a plastics expert who would bring home prototypes of the first-generation of 80s tech.

“I was brought up testing early Sinclair Research prototypes and weird computer interfaces. My garage is still full of vintage tech… a Sinclair C5 (which will feature in the film), a huge retro gaming collection and a DeLorean!”

Before his appearance on UK TV screens Jason studied Film and Television at Bristol University alongside Simon Pegg and David Walliams, with whom he set up a regular comedy night called David Icke and the Orphans of Jesus.

“I’ve been a passionate film buff since my uni days, especially 80s and 90s movies, and dreamed of bringing a fresh idea to the big screen. Ctrl AI Delete is that idea and the great thing is that in today’s social media era we can leverage community support to help get it made”
